Long gone are the days when Private Investigators are just retired police detectives. In this modern day they come from all walks of life — yes, the police and military services are still prevalent, but many come from university or other professions and then train to be a PI.
The bottom line is you may be academically qualified, but nothing beats the experience you learn on the job which is far more important.
Surelock has been established for over 30 years, founded by highly decorated Senior Detective Roy Herridge QPM, and now managed by former Scotland Yard Detective and past President of The Association of British Investigators Ron Harrison.
We have a dedicated, highly skilled, and experienced team of professional private investigators. We spent many years recruiting experts from the police, military services and the private sector.
Our Professional Memberships
As a company we are proud members of:
- The Association of British Investigators
- The Anti-Counterfeiting Group
- The World Association of Detectives
- The Association of Security Consultants
We always encourage new members to our profession to join one of these associations — mainly for credibility, but also for networking and comradeship.
A lot of our team members have been trained in-house, but they also attend professional courses run by the industry.
Our Core Services
Surelock offers a variety of services to corporate businesses and private individuals, and it is important to us that we have the best possible operatives to give this service.
Here are a few of our core services which we may be able to help you with:
Brand Protection
We are specialists in Brand Protection and protect our clients’ intellectual property rights, conducting numerous investigations and online take-downs worldwide.
Working with the authorities on enforcement action and prosecutions – with our proactive investigations we are responsible for some of the largest seizures of counterfeits in the UK.
Our brand protection manager is from the private sector, has been with us for 10 years learning from grass roots. Our online consultant is from a scientific background, has been with us for 28 years, and apart from other services is one of the UK’s most experienced online investigators, with a vast knowledge of the global marketplace — whose various selling platforms respect his submissions.

Surveillance
We have surveillance teams strategically placed all over the UK to deal with domestic/cheating partner surveillance, accident injury surveillance, investigative and corporate surveillance.
All our surveillance is carried out legally, covertly recorded in a public place. We keep the client informed of the findings, supplying a detailed log of events with selected photos; a full unedited recording is also available if required.
Our surveillance teams come from the police and military services, who have spent years carrying out these duties while serving. The team leaders are exceptionally well qualified and undertake many complex operations on behalf of our clients and the public, using the most up-to-date covert equipment.

Security Surveys
We have many years’ experience in the field of security surveys and risk assessments, dealing with physical security measures — both existing and future installations.
Vulnerabilities identified in the survey will be highlighted, and cost-effective solutions will be provided in an easy-to-read illustrated report.
Our senior security consultant has over 30 years’ experience, Home Office trained, with a wealth of knowledge in Crime Prevention and Anti-terrorism.
A long-standing and respected member of The Association of Security Consultants, he served on the British Standards Institute (BSI) Security Services Committee for over 12 years and personally wrote the Security Consultancy and Private Investigations Code of Practice standards that are now used regularly in the UK.
He was also involved in reviewing, updating, and publishing most of the UK Security Codes of Practice and Security Standards in this industry. Now very much an expert on the implications of The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law, advising the many different businesses that will be impacted by this legislation.

Bug Sweeps
Our dedicated engineer has over 30 years’ experience using purpose-built specialist equipment.
Working with a backup team, we conduct a full electronic sweep of the premises, then use separate handheld wands for near-field examinations of rooms, offices, computers, and telephone equipment.
Finally — and very importantly — a fingertip search is carried out examining power supplies and ceiling tiles.
When we complete a TSCM (Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Sweep), we can tell you if there is anything there or not.
“What you say in private is your business — keeping it that way is ours.”

Crime and Fraud Investigations
This is really our bread and butter. We have identified and recruited a dedicated team of highly experienced investigators who over the years have successfully investigated most crimes — both here in the UK and abroad — for a wide range of clients.
Whether it be a burglary, robbery, blackmail, theft of valuable items, fraud, assaults, missing persons or indeed a murder, we can assist.
One has worked for Surelock since 2007 and has undertaken a wide variety of investigations, many involving complex frauds. Qualified in Law at university (LLB Hons) and with 31 years in the Metropolitan Police as a career detective, he was involved in numerous confidential, high-level and protracted investigations and specialised in covert operations.
Another was a Police Officer for 30 years (25 years as a Detective) working both reactively and proactively. During this period, he worked on investigations including murder, firearms, drugs importation, surveillance, covert informants, and anti-corruption.
Seconded to various police units and the National Crime Agency (including its earlier formats). Since retiring from the police in 2009, he has continued to work in investigations as an Insurance Investigator, a Security Manager for a national gaming company, and spent 10 years on two long-term Public Inquiries: the Al-Sweady Inquiry and the Infected Blood Inquiry, interviewing witnesses and victims.
Our Managing Director was a career detective and totally committed workaholic — a true professional with 25 years in the private sector and 30 years’ experience as a Police Officer and Detective with Scotland Yard, serving on specialist squads such as the Fraud Squad and Regional Crime Squad, working both in the UK and abroad on complex investigations.
An active member and past President of The Association of British Investigators, member of The World Association of Detectives, proactive member of The Anti-Counterfeiting Group, and greatly respected worldwide.
At the end of the day, our expert investigators will provide you with all the intelligence and evidence you need to progress your investigation, in legal or disciplinary proceedings.
